How this page ranks properties. Switzerland is the first country in this series where a national hotel classification both exists and measures something real: the Schweizer Hotelklassifikation run by HotellerieSuisse works from 239 criteria, uses trained auditors and mystery checks, and adds a Superior grade above five stars. But entry is voluntary. Since 2020 a house either joins category A and is classified, or declines in writing and sits in category B. A voluntary register cannot rank a market, because absence from it carries no information. The ranking axis on this site is therefore the MICHELIN Key, and the star is carried as a declared attribute alongside it.

What is on this site

The nine three-Key houses

MICHELIN announced its first worldwide Key selection for Switzerland on 8 October 2025: 9 houses at three Keys, 32 at two and 49 at one, 90 in all. Every name above is verified against that publication in both directions — a name in the register that is not in the selection is as much an error as one in the selection missing from the register.

Where the volume sits

Switzerland recorded 43 930 146 overnight stays in 2025, 2.6% above 2024 and 11.0% above 2019, from 22 170 000 arrivals. Foreign guests accounted for 22.8 million of those nights and domestic guests 21.1 million — an almost even split, which is unusual in Europe and matters commercially: the domestic half books late, short and by weather.

Figures are the definitive edition published by the Federal Statistical Office on 25 February 2026. A preliminary estimate circulated in late January 2026 and is deliberately not used here; where two editions of the same statistic exist, this site takes the definitive one and records the other as superseded.
