One canton holding two non-overlapping markets. Why twenty-three cantons carry no figure
The Federal Statistical Office publishes overnight stays in two geographies that do not reduce to one another: by the 26 cantons and by 13 tourism regions. These are not two views of the same thing. Bern Region and the Bernese Oberland are two separate tourism regions inside one canton; Ostschweiz spans six cantons at once. Adding figures across the two grids produces a number that means nothing.
This site carries the cantonal grid as the administrative truth, because that is what a property's address belongs to. The cantonal annual breakdown, however, is served only through the office's interactive STAT-TAB form, which requires a query to be posted; no static annual table by canton is published, and the press release aggregates up to the tourism regions. 3 cantons are confirmed from separate cantonal publications. The remaining 23 are marked not recorded — which is not zero and not an estimate, but an open item with a named source of closure.
