Selections
Six editorial selections answer the questions asked before a property is chosen: which resorts hold a Key, which islands can be taken whole, and which atolls the daylight rule binds.
There is no national classification
The Maldives Tourism Act 2/99 records the type of a property — resort, hotel, guesthouse or safari vessel — and the fact of its registration. It does not grade quality. There is no national star system to rank against, so the ranking axis on this page set is the MICHELIN Key, awarded to the country for the first time on 8 October 2025.
11 properties hold a Key: 2 at three Keys, 2 at two, 7 at one. Every other property on file is marked verify: the Ministry's named register is not available for automated retrieval, so there is nothing to confirm those entries against yet. The mark is the honest state of the record, not a formality.
