Inhabited islands with a swimwear beach

Local law applies on the inhabited islands of the Maldives: swimwear is permitted only on a designated stretch. Whether such a stretch exists decides whether an island sells as a beach product or only as a base for going out to sea, and in the guesthouse segment it is the first question a client asks.

On resort islands the question does not arise, because the island is private. Every entry below is marked verify: confirmation comes from the island council or the Ministry's guesthouse register, and neither has been checked for these islands yet.

The distinction matters commercially because it separates two different products sold from the same island. With a designated stretch the island competes at the lower edge of the resort segment; without one it sells as a base for diving, fishing and day trips, and the beach itself is bought elsewhere — on an excursion to a sandbank or a resort day pass.

The islands below sit in 6 atolls. Kaafu and the two Ari atolls carry most of them, which is the same geography that carries the resort stock: the guesthouse layer grew where the transfers were already short.
