Getting there
| Point | Mode | Type | Scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kyoto | Rail | Shinkansen | 2h 12m from Tokyo |
No airport of its own: entry via Kansai (about 80 minutes) or Itami. The Shinkansen from Tokyo takes 2 h 12 — Kyoto is closer than Osaka by time. Intra-city logistics are worse than clients expect: the centre is congested, and in high season a station-to-ryokan transfer can take as long as the run from Osaka.

The highest international share in Japan at 55% of stays. The flip side: domestic demand fell 13.9% in a year and the Japanese corporate client is moving to Osaka and Shiga. Five of the six three-star restaurants in Kansai sit here.
